I've wanted to create a video with this message for years, but never had the courage / equiptment / editing skill to do it. I finally bit the bullet and created this video by myself, and wanted people to finish this video by thinking about my message.
I was bullied all through my school years, and I'm cyber bullied every day on my social media platforms. This video was inspired by various art pieces I created around 5 years ago whilst I was being bullied at school.
I created 2 art pieces; one with a girl sitting on a stool, surrounded by hundreds of malicious comments that she had heard people say about her.
The second art piece was a photograph of myself covered in pen writings all over my body of the same comments.
I've had a response that this video is similar to the mypaleskin video. That is true, when you do watch them side by side they have their similarities with the comments over the screen. If you look further into both videos, you will discover that I am sending out a completely different message to the mypaleskin video. I wanted to focus upon suicide, cyber bullying and self worth. Em's (mypaleskin) video is incredibly beautiful, and I definitely do recommend you watch it if you haven't already. However, I can assure you that I had not seen Em's video for months when creating this short film. This short film was directed, filmed and edited all in my own creative process.
This video is extremely close to my heart and it's something I've wanted to do for a long time.
If this leaves at least one person deciding to say a compliment instead of an insult today, then I have achieved what I set out to do.
